AGM and Gardeners Question Time

Anyone interested in joining our committee for 2017/18 are very welcome.

After the AGM we are having a Gardener Question Time.
Questions should be handed in to Jean Faulkner ( e-mail jeanfaulkner) beforehand.  We are having 4 of our members answering your questions about gardening.  Hopefully we are all going to learn new ideas!

After the Gardeners Question Time we will have nibbles and a glass of something.  Everyone welcome.

On Saturday 20th May we will be having our annual plant sale - remember to pot up those cuttings, plant a few extra seeds or when dividing perennials pot an extra one up for the plant sale.

Phil Allen is coming to talk to us on 'The walled garden at Apley, near Bridgnorth'.  Phil is the Head Gardener.

Set in the heart of beautiful Shropshire countryside, Apley Walled Garden originally produced fruit & vegetables for the owners of Apley Park (often known as Apley Hall).

After sixty years out of use, the Walled Gardens have been transformed & brought back into production as a working walled kitchen garden, growing & producing contemporary & heritage varieties of fruit and vegetable.

Tuesday 1st November

On Tuesday 1st November we are having a talk on Perry making by Tom Oliver of Olivers cider and perry.  He is bringing along samples for us to try and the Committee are providing nibbles.  Everyone welcome - visitors £2.00
Tom says
“It’s amazing to think that before the ‘Truck Act’ of 1887, nearly all Herefordshire farms had apple and pear orchards and would have partly paid their workforce in cider and perry. If you made the best cider, you got the best workers.
Cider and Perry have moved with the times and now are not just the drink of the landed gentry and country folk.
Sophisticated, well blended ciders and perries can be perfect partners with a wide variety of dishes, including these delicious mussels”

Jack Willgoss from Wildgoose Nursery, Millichope Park, Munslow, is coming to talk to us on late summer colour.  See the web site here.  He is calling his talk 'A late summer love affair'.
Jack and partner Laura specialise in hardy, perennial Violas, with a continually expanding collection of over 150 varieties, comprising of old favourites and the best new introductions.  They have written on their web site -
"The Bouts Viola collection was established in 1978 by Mark and Stephanie Roberts.  Their passion and dedication to ‘all things Viola’ has not only helped to preserve many old and rare varieties that might otherwise have been lost, but also led to the introduction of many new varieties, of which Elaine Quin, Perry’s Pride, Mark’s Dainty and Isabel are to name but a few.
In August 2011 Mark and Stephanie Roberts retired and we, here at Wildegoose Nursery, have been fortunate enough to take on this wonderful collection.
The idea for Wildegoose Nursery began back at RHS Garden Wisley in 2006 where we met as trainees and dreamt of having a beautiful garden and nursery business of our own. Well 5 years on the garden project has started with our move into the walled garden at Millichope Park and the violas are doing well in their new home in the beautiful Shropshire Hills."
